STUDY LINK
Project Background and Goals:
Study-Link is a database of enrolling HIV clinical trials in New York City that helps health care professionals and HIV + patients find appropriate trials for them and refer them to these trials. Prospective enrollees call a dedicated Study-Link line and give a few details about their health status and history; CD4 count, viral load, medications taken in the past and medical conditions associated with the disease. The computer sorts client information and locates appropriate studies for him/her. The Study-Link staff sets up a screening appointment with the research site by 3-way phone calls, or by mailing the information to clients. Study-Link also has information on studies for HIV- negative people at risk for infection.
Study Link staff advertise the program through presentations at community organizations, clinics and other agencies that provide services to people living with HIV.
Another popular feature of the program is a bimonthly Coordinator’s Meeting. During this meeting, the coordinators of the New York City based clinical trials have an opportunity to share strategies to recruit people, update information about clinical trials, and changing regulations. It is also a networking place for people working with the HIV positive population
This project is funded by the Ryan White CARE Act Title I through the Medical & Health Research Association of New York City, Inc.
