Antiviral Effects of Oral Vitamin C

CDN was funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Division of AIDS Treatment Research Initiatives (DATRI) to implement "A Dose Escalation Study to Evaluate Tolerance and Antiviral Effects of Oral Vitamin C in Two Groups of HIV-Infected Adults" to determine the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of oral vitamin C in HIV-Infected adults with CD4+ counts of <200/cu mm and HIV-Infected adults with CD4+ counts 200-500 cu mm. This pilot study builds upon a concept developed initially under the NIAID CPCRA (Jonathan N. Tobin, PhD, Protocol Chair), and responds to the needs expressed by CDN Community Advisory Boards for  trials of alternative and complimentary therapies.
