Detroit Oral Cancer Prevention Project

Continuing Medical and Dental Education Course

The course is designed to provide focused modules to learn about oral tissues and how cancer can be detected and prevented. Information is presented on oral cancer detection, prevention and the oral cavity and its complex structures. The course describes methods to prevent oral cancer.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• Identify what oral cancer looks like

• Identify the sites in the mouth with the highest risk of developing oral cancer

• Conduct an oral cancer screening and a brush biopsy

• Understand the morbidity associated with oral cancer and its treatment

• Counsel patients on ways to prevent oral cancer
