CLINICAL DIRECTORS NETWORK, Inc.
COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY
TEENSCREEN PROJECT
Project Background and Goals:
The TeenScreen Program is a national mental health and suicide risk screening program that was created to address the program of unidentified mental health and illness and suicide risk in youth.
The goal of this collaboration between Columbia University TeenScreen Program and Clinical Directors Network is to conduct a research study to evaluate the feasibility of incorporating the TeenScreen mental health screening protocol into routine physical examination provided to youth between the ages of 11 and 17 in Community Health Centers.
The main objectives of the study are to:
1) Help to identify the acceptability of youth mental health screening in pediatric or family primary care practices with and without co-located mental health services
2) Determine the proportion of children who are identified as being at risk for mental health problems in each setting
3) Determine among youth identified as being at risk of having a mental health problem, the proportion who receive mental health services either from a primary care provider or from a mental health specialist during the 30 day period following the screen
Two CHCs will be offered training and support to provide the TeenScreen Program on site. One hundred youth from each site will be followed to assess outcomes.
