The Multiple Comparisons Problem in Clinical Trials

Speakers:

Susan S. Ellenberg, PhD

Professor of Biostatistics, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania

Session Goals:

The multiple comparisons problem is ubiquitous in clinical trials. We want to avoid “fishing expeditions,” but we also need to learn from our data. We can strike the right balance by proper interpretation of our findings.

Learning Objectives:

1. What do we mean by “the multiple comparisons problem?”
2. How can we control false positive error when performing multiple analyses?
3. How should we interpret our data when we are reporting multiple analyses?
